February & March: Descendant of the Crane and The Gilded Wolves

Well. The past two months were…a lot, to say the least. I don’t know about y’all, but March is feeling about 3 years long, and it’s not even over yet. That being said, my themes for February and March were for some of my favorite 2019 reads, and my bujo is joined by my trusty sidekick xiaolongbao today!

The calendar spread from January is a new favorite of mine, and I’ll most likely be sticking with it, just reconfiguring based on the month/other additions I want to make.

Of the two of us, Orianna is by far the more artistic one, but I was so inspired by her Descendant of the Crane spread that I decided to try my hand at drawing cranes. It was a LOT of sketching using references and a LOT of erasing.

I’m actually pretty happy with how the majority of my cranes turned out! They’re not perfect by any means but they were a challenge for me and I appreciate having a tangible growth tracker!

As satisfying and aesthetically pleasing as my Descendant spread was, it took a lot of upkeep, so for March I decided to give myself a bit of a break and use these gorgeous washi tapes that my friend gifted me instead.

Depending on the book, it can be hard for me to find quotes that I want to add to my spreads, but The Gilded Wolves is full of so much beautiful writing that I actually had to narrow down my choices!

I can safely say that I am definitely a fan of vertical columns when it comes to my weekly spreads. I’m pretty sure it’s because everything looks like a neater list that way, and for March at least, it really fit with the city skyline washi tape I was using.

As of right now, I’m not sure what April’s spread will look like. To be completely honest, I’m running low on motivation and inspiration right now. A lot of it has to do with the fact that my last quarter of undergrad has been moved completely online and I’m not sure how to adjust yet. This week I plan on getting back on track in terms of the blog schedule and my plan for writing my thesis, but I’m giving myself plenty of room to do things like bake, play Animal Crossing, and sit with some of the overwhelming feelings brought on by this pandemic. I’m trying to find my new balance, and I believe I’m going to get there. It’s just going to take some patience and perseverance.

Remember to take care of yourselves, reread that book that always brings you comfort, or start a new one that you can get lost in for hours just for a bit of reprieve, and most of all – give yourself permission to feel whatever it is you’re feeling. You’re valid.

Love always,
